Auto LPG vs Domestic LPG?

THE USE OF DOMESTIC LPG IN AUTOMOBILES IS ILLEGAL

How Auto LPG differs from Domestic LPG?

In Domestic LPG (Cooking Gas) the chemical Mercaptan is added to bring out the smell that aids in identifying a leak. This chemical is corrosive in nature and can harm engines. Auto LPG on the other hand is the purest form of LPG and does not have any corrosive characteristics. It has anti-knocking properties which are not present in Domestic LPG. Domestic LPG due to its composition may have a pressure of between 3-10 bars, whereas Auto LPG has a higher propane content and lesser heavier hydrocarbons, thus it has a pressure of between 7-10 bars.

Transferring LPG from cylinders into motor vehicles is extremely hazardous and highly risky.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has allotted a code of 4576 for LPG used for cooking, whereas the code for Auto LPG is 14861.
