Auto LPG's auto-ignition temperature is higher than that of gasoline, and it is used in a closed fuel system where fitted valves move the fuel from the pump to the vehicle's tank without exposure to the outside environment, preventing fuel spillage and evaporation. Various crash tests and fire tests have proved the strength and integrity of the fuel tank. Constructed from composite and carbon steel, Auto LPG tanks are 20 times more puncture resistant and will survive much greater impacts than a typical Gasoline, Methanol or Ethanol tank. Modern Auto LPG fuel systems are protected by advanced pressure regulators and safety valves. In many cars, onboard gas detectors and other safety valves allow fuel flow only when the engine is operating. Fuel systems are also fitted with shut-off valves that function automatically if the fuel line ruptures, meaning that gas can no longer flow from the tank. Auto LPG tanks are also manufactured with a device that shuts off the filling process when the tank reaches 80 percent of its liquid capacity, allowing for temperature related changes in fuel volume without any release of gas from the tank.

The cost of converting a Petrol vehicle to Auto LPG is between Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 25,000, depending on the kit. There are government prescribed conversion kits available which are safer, cheaper and more durable than the ones available for CNG. All types of road vehicles can use Auto LPG as a fuel. Today, all major vehicle producers such as Maruti, Hyundai, Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, Bajaj, etc. are manufacturing variants that run on Auto LPG. Auto LPG can easily be used in Trucks, Buses, LCVs, MUVs, Passenger Cars and Two & Three Wheelers.
Petrol vehicles which have been converted to Auto LPG are dual fueled, which means that at a flick of a switch the fuel source can be changed from Petrol to Auto LPG or vice-versa. This provides the added flexibility of being able to use two types of fuel.
